About

Hi, I’m Terisa Green, Ph.D. — a writer, archaeologist, and a tattoo researcher.

I’m the author of The Tattoo Encyclopedia: A Guide to Choosing Your Tattoo (Simon & Schuster) and Ink: The Not-Just-Skin-Deep Guide to Getting A Tattoo (Penguin). My tattoo articles have appeared in The New York Times, Skin & Ink, American Legion, Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, The Humanist, Cosmopolitan, and Playboy.

For several weeks, I participated in a tattoo apprenticeship at Sunset Strip Tattoo, in Hollywood. Although I soldered needles, customized my machine, painted watercolors, cleaned the station, learned customer care, and mixed pigments, I did not tattoo anyone. It’s too much responsibility.

I’ve also visited a tattoo removal clinic for ex-gang members as well as a private medical facility to see laser removal.

I’ve been interviewed by ABC News, KTLA News, Newsday.com, UCLA Magazine, ChatelaineFrankfurter Allgemeine, UCLA Today, and the Chicago Tribune.

In addition, I’ve also appeared as a guest on various radio programs: the Booker & Diane Show on WSTO, the Rod Ryan Morning Show on KKND, S&M in the Morning on WGRD, the Kirk, Mark, and Lopez Show on WIYY, the Dave Durian Show of WBAL, and the Dennis Prager Show on KRLA. I was also interviewed on KTLA TV.

I’ve been busy.

Today I’m creating TheTotalTattoo web site in order to better inform people about tattoos and their choices. It’s my hope that visitors here will one day be as happy with their tattoos as I am with mine.
